The Word Became Flesh

Before there was a manger…
Before there were angels in the sky…
Before there were shepherds in the field…
There was God. The Word. The Creator. The Life-Giver. The Light-Bearer.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made;
without him nothing was made that has been made.
In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

— John 1:1–5

This is not yet the story of a baby. This is the story of God before time. This is the eternal “I AM.”

Matthew and Luke ease us into the story—angelic announcements, family lines, and nativity scenes. Mark drops us right in the middle of Jesus’ ministry. But John throws us into eternity.

The Vastness of God

Have you ever stood beneath a night sky and felt small?
Ever been struck by the size of it all? The beauty? The mystery?

The God who spoke everything into being… The God who flung stars into space… The God who holds all things together by His word…That same God wrote Himself into our story with fragile fingers and newborn cries.

He didn’t send someone else. He came. Himself.

The Word Became Flesh

This is the beauty of Christmas:

“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.
We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son,
who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

— John 1:14

The light that shined at creation…
The voice that formed the universe…
The glory of heaven itself… Came down. Wrapped in flesh. Born into a dusty world… to save it.

Reflection

When you think of Christmas—what do you focus on? The busyness? The nostalgia? The manger scene? What would happen if we began this season in awe?

Let your soul reflect on this truth: The God of creation didn’t stay distant. He came close. He set aside His divinity & picked up our humanity.

Prayer

Jesus, You are the eternal Word—God with us.
You existed before time and entered our story to save us.
Fill my heart with wonder.
Let me never take for granted the power of Your arrival.
Thank You for becoming flesh and dwelling among us.
Amen.

Reading Plan

Take one passage each day and reflect on the wonder of Jesus—eternal and incarnate:

Day 1: John 1:1–14
Day 2: Isaiah 9:1-7
Day 3: Luke 2:1–20

And that is what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown!
